Catholic Guardian Society and Home Bureau (CGSHB) is an affiliated agency of the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York and a multi-program non-profit organization that provides a range of human services to clients in New York City and the surrounding metropolitan area.  Our programs serve people with developmental disabilities, homeless mothers and their children, families whose children are at risk of child abuse and neglect and are in need of preventive services, children in foster care, juvenile offenders, pregnant women through maternity counseling and other supportive services, children and prospective adoptive parents through private domestic and international adoptions, and families in need of day care services.

Through the care we provide, we seek to affirm the dignity of each person we serve and to carry a message of hope to vulnerable persons of all ages, regardless of race, color, creed, or ethnic origin.  Our goal is to protect and nurture disadvantaged children and individuals with disabilities, to increase their prospects for self-sufficiency, to strengthen the family structures integral to their support, and to continually adapt our responses to their ever-changing needs.  CGSHB collaborates with others in the public and voluntary sectors to offer professional and compassionate care to needy individuals and groups through a broad array of community-based programs.

Our dedicated staff strive to help those in our care overcome difficult circumstances and reach their potential with care, compassion and respect for their personal dignity.  For many individuals, barriers can include abuse and neglect, poverty, family violence, mental illness, developmental disabilities, homelessness, isolation, and accompanying physical and emotional scars.  CGSHB staff work hard to assist individuals and families to overcome those barriers and to begin the journey to fulfill their hopes and dreams.  We answer the basic and essential needs for safety, nutritious food, and emotional support, and we go beyond the essentials to learn and assess what is needed to help build strong and self-determined lives and futures.  We offer compassion, support, encouragement and guidance.
